There have been 25 Bloodhound Clans on which all of the following generations base upon. All of these clans where somehow different from the others, possessing skills or features that specialised them on a certain field. While all Hounds possessed certain skills like hunting, craftsman ship etc. some where simply even better than others. Pure blood and purity of the clans were important in those days and racism and intolerance where part of everyday life. With the growing threat through the Gorgats though the Hounds realized that they were better off by mingling and living in groups that had a broad range of experts in them. While in the years of mixing the strict connection of forehead symbol (representing the old clan) and skills/ features has weakened they can still be found valid at times today. It is said that a Hound is “one of his sign” if his behaviour and skills are very close to that of the original clan his forehead symbol represents. In these times the racism of the old days has almost completely ceased to exist and almost all Hounds are integrated equally into the society.

The rule is: a forehead symbol _can_ be an indicator for a Hound’s character, but it doesn’t have to be.

The forehead symbol of a Bloodhound is an important part of his or her identity and it plays an important role for “gating” (opening a gate, allowing almost immediate travel between one spot and another even over a large distance). Hence the hardest punishment for a Hound is not death, but the removal of the forehead sign and banishment from the home world. That way the ties to Ileyeah and the Bloodhounds are cut and usually a return is made impossible.

Alpha

As with wolves the Bloodhound Alphas are usually (head)strong and dominant individuals, pushing their way up to leading positions and power. While they usually are good and reasonable leaders, feeling a great deal of responsibility of those under their paws, they have a tendency to become greedy for power and merciless towards rivals. Courageous, determined, thoughtful.

Beta

Born diplomats and counsellors they have a skill for settling quarrels. They have a way with words, seeming to know what to say in every situation. Their behaviour adjusts so much that they often seem to have no opinion or character of their own. They can make somebody else believe that the Beta's opinion is their own and vice versa. Calm, pacifying, submissive, fake, lulling, manipulative.

Gamma

Being very impulsive and hot tempered they often appear a bit "dumb", acting first and thinking later. They are fearless and courageous, being the first ones to explore unknown territory, often endangering them though. They do have a skill for fighting themselves out of trouble though. They are usually willing to take great risks for others and even the way for comrades and loved ones. The community is important to them and so is acknowledgement and praise, which often leads to them, being too proud and too arrogant. Being either physically tough or very heart-strong they are born warriors, willing to follow a devoted leader into death, or die for him in order to clear the way. Good humoured, hot tempered, direct, impulsive, uncomplicated.

Delta

While all Hounds need to be able to hunt in order to survive the Deltas are especially skilled hunters. They have advanced tracking skills, have a feeling for their prey’s way of thinking as well as weather influences and their surrounding and they know how to kill swiftly and painless. They don’t let anything of their prey come to waste. While not always being able to use everything on their own they can usually find somebody who for example is able to transfer fur, bones or similar into something useful. They also have a skill to tame animals without breaking their spirit. Tend to be loners at times, observative, cautious.

Epsilon

The Epsilons and the Zetas share a fate of filling out a niche in Bloodhound society that is closer to the edge than others. Epsilons have an unexplained connection to death and in a few rare cases also to life. They often can predict the time and way of death of others as well as themselves. They know a countless ways to kill or to keep a body alive, while the spirit has already passed on or vice versa. Attracted by death they have often been seen as a bad omen, especially if appearing in larger groups. Epsilons, of all hounds, are the only ones able to live on a diet of cadavers. While still often approached with scepticism they have been more integrated into Bloodhound society. They are bringers of comfort in the time of passing, they can create a connection between the living and the passed on and they are the ones usually finding life spheres and maintaining them. It is seen as a great sign of trust to hand over a newborn to an Epsilon. It can mean either a very short or a very long life. Calm, gloomy, mysterious, not very social.

Zeta

They used to be assassins, mercenaries, bodyguards and master thieves. They have perfected the skills of stealth, soundless movement, intrigues and the like. Until today they often have trouble bowing to laws and interacting, hence many of them leave Ileyeah. They are emotionally complicated, usually caring for themselves only, willing to kill others if they stand in their way. Yet if they ever decide to attach to somebody, they are the most devoted and loyal Hounds of all... sometimes to a degree of obsession though. Many of them are still of their sign and are moving in the outer rims of Bloodhound society. Egoistic, treacherous, careful, cautious, excellent in what they do, stealthy, secretive, decisive.

Eta

Very rational they often have the ungrateful task to do the decisions nobody else wants to do. Appearing emotionally cold and merciless they are the ones deciding about matters as persecution of criminals, banishment, interfering in foreign policies etc. They usually care for the greater good and wellbeing of the multitude, often overlooking individual fate and matters of the heart; hence they never are let to decide alone. Being rational they usually are perceptive for counter voices, yet they are very intelligent and usually have more than one argument for their own methods. Persuasive, rational, calm, determined, intelligent, eloquent.

Theta

They are the grand masters of repairing. From broken tools over mayor flaws in space technology to broken spirits of a maltreated Hound: they have magical paws and know how to make broken things whole again. They, too, are often healers, but can be found in almost any branch of occupation. Sometimes they tend to be a bit smart alec, forcing their help upon others. Diligent, skilful, smartassed.

Jota

Jotas have the weird feature of defining themselves by being part of something else. They usually devote their live to another Hound or a subculture, a cult, a political movement, a scientific or artistic branch. They are devoted followers and very diligent in pursuing a goal for somebody else, on order to be part of something they consider worthy. Jotas often fill out positions of what can be called "bondsmen", yet completely voluntary and not on an abusive base. They
chose a master, for whom they do everything in order to help him or her rise, not wanting to stand in the spotlight directly. They can easily be abused once their trust and devotion has been gained. Other than that they will defend their chosen master/ clan/ way of life with a temper. Devoted, naive, passionate, submissive, following their own ideals.

Kappa

These Hounds have a strong connection to Ileyeah as a planet. They see it as a living being with an own will, that breathes, feels pain and goes through states of emotion. They are the best gardeners and farmers. They know when to plant what and where. They know which fruits and animals can be brought to Ileyeah without doing harm and which don't. In the deserts they will find waterholes and they are the best guides in the Crystal Forest. Their strong connection to the planet can sometimes reach extreme levels in which a Hound almost starves in order not to hurt the planet's balance by hunting or harvesting. Balance is important so they prevent for example that a certain species is hunt down/ harvested too much, while another is bred so often it threatens to push away other species. They are strong defenders of their home world and often sceptical towards strangers and strange things brought to Ileyeah. Traditional, sometimes conservative, strong connection to nature.

Lambda

They are creative spirits. Kind, gentle and dreamy, but also naive and sometimes even ignorant and egocentric. They can not understand that others might not see the world the same way they do. Having an unbeaten sense of beauty they should be part of any larger group of Hounds. They are very skilled painters, craftsman, weavers, tailors, musicians, carpenters, actors, jewellery smiths and so on. They have a skill to find something beautiful in almost every situation. Not always easy to get along with, moody, inspiring, full of life.

My

Mys are the perfect hosts. They know how to care temporarily for others, how to make them feel comfortable and welcome. Reading and guessing a guest’s wishes and fulfilling them is part of their skills as well as diplomatic tendencies, an open ear and a network of connections to others. What differs them from Omegas is that they take care of others for a rather short time only and that their connection is not as deep and emotional. Diplomatic, friendly, can appear superficial.

Ny

They can be described as the secretaries of Ileyeah. They write down or memorize or somehow else preserve ... everything. They are treasure holders of Ileyeah's history as well as one's private dreams. Taking down notes of everything and listening to everybody they often try to preserve as much of what they gather as possible, often to a point of obsession, in which they collect things that don't even have a use for others. They are librarians, teachers and masters of the memory spheres. If a certain fact or information is needed, they are the ones to be asked. Sometimes arrogant, pedantic and overly organized, restless, not always focussed unless they're fully sunk into their task.

Xi

Xis are often perceived as trouble makers. They speak up their mind uninvited and very persistent. While often plainly annoying they utter inconvenient truths at times of need. They are seldom pleasant to be with as they appear rude, tactless and inappropriately direct. Yet they never lie, not even if threatened. This does not mean they will give away secrets just like that, but if they have an opinion they stand by it faithfully. Hence they have often been used as messengers, being trained in some basic diplomacy beforehand. Loud, direct, careless, honest.

Omicron

They are the practical counterpart of the Lambdas: They can build anything that fulfils a practical purpose and has a use. It might not always look pretty, but it works. This might include simple tools, armours, things of daily use or space ships and exotic things as uhm... a device for a Hound's house that adjusts the temperature according to the owner's mood... or something. They are very skilled, yet sometimes geeky; building things that only they alone see as something useful and are hurt upon being told so. Whiny, skilled, easy to insult, devoted.

Pi

They are the scientists of all Hounds. They have a talent for getting to the core of everything. While believing that there is no total truth that lasts for a long period of time, they try to find ways to understand the universe around them and make it manageable. They connect matters of spirit, body, believe, science etc. to one wholesome thing. According to them not everything _needs_ to be fully understand and explained... but one can still try. They often are a bit geeky, finding interest in the weirdest things. They can root in front of a weird little bug as well as in front of a giant bushfire, being too fascinated and sunk in deep to realize the rest of the world around them. Geeky, devoted, intelligent, thorough.

Rho

Excellent strategists and plan makers. They are excellent in making the best of a given situation and bring it to a successful end; this can include a hunt, a strategy for a battle in war, architecture or something plain as a recipe. They are smart and very observative, taking everything into account surrounding them. They often tend to live in an ivory tower though, planning plans and theories, but being overthrown by the practical aspects of life. In general friendly, sometimes a bit geeky, very devoted to what they do, helpful.

Sigma

Often predestined to be healers and teachers as they bring conscious knowledge and experience of more than one life. Very wise and knowledgeable they often tend to take themselves too serious, not accepting somebody's opinion that seems too young or too inexperienced. They are strongly rooted to the Bloodhound race and Ileyeah's history, what makes most of them pacifists and pursuers of the reunion of the two races, Bloodhounds and Gorgats. Sometimes they lack the will to alter their opinion even if proofed wrong. Wise, sensible, caring, stubborn, dreamy.

Tau

Being the gourmets of the Hounds they are the experts of anything edible. This covers up a very fine nose for sniffing up hidden treats or faintest hints of poison, a delicate tongue and an iron stomach, that can digest almost anything. Taus can nibble on almost anything without negative consequences for their body, hence foreign food is usually brought to them so they can find out weather the Hound-organism can stand it or not. They are also gorgeous cooks and can do magic in combining spices and food. Even with a set of completely unknown ingredients they can prepare a tasty dish. They can also adapt to tastes rather well and are not restricted to Hound diets. Sometimes they tend to have eating disorders and they can be incredibly nitpicky about food and the likes, which can often end up in quarrels. Perfectionists, enjoying life, thorough, sure of themselves.

Ypsilon

This bloodline has a weird habit of bringing out either geniuses or maniacs. Many great Hounds have been Ypsilons. Great can mean a lot in this context and not all of it is positive. Many historically relevant Hounds who brought important changes to Bloodhound society have been Ypsilons. Anything but predictable.

Phi

Phis make great scouts and explorers. They are very observative and careful, sucking in the impressions of their surrounding. Learning by observing they usually grasp other languages and cultures quickly, which is why they are often involved in first contact situations. They have often been used as spies and still are seen as such by other cultures. Curious, nosy, sometimes skippy, cautious.

Chi

Good-hearted jesters, taking life the easy way, bringing laughter wherever they go. They often misjudge the seriousness of a situation and don't know when to stop kidding. They lack care and caution at times, but are always fun to be with and know how to distract and cheer up. Open-minded, cheerful, sometimes naive.

Psi

Usually high metasensoric skills. They often intermingle with Gorgats in order to create seers among their offspring. Sometimes not attached to the "real world" anymore and not always capable of surviving on their own. They often are perceived as creepy, with a spooky insight into one's deepest core. Calm, shy, socially and emotionally awkward, but friendly.

Omega

Usually keepers of something. They used to be occupied as shepherds, foster parents, "social workers" and the like. They often tend to neglect their own wellbeing for that of another. Caring, warm-hearted, sensible, devoted.

Boy, it's been a while since I uploaded any specific background information on Ileyeah or the Bloodhounds and this one's actually nothing new but only a revised version of an older text on the 25 forehead symbols of the Hounds.

I was rather unhappy with the old definitions and so I put a great deal of thought into the new text and now I am far happier. Some things remained the same, but much was changed or explained far more detailed. The text will probably become even more detailed over the time, but that's ok. ^^

So.. I gots another question.. (I know.. ANOTHER one! :stupidme: )
Epsilons.. they eat cadavers.. Would this mean the could be cannibals? In the sense that they'd eat a dead bloodhound? Or is this horribly frowned upon and even punishable in bloodhound society? :x

Hm... technically I think they could. When I thought about that back then I mainly had in mind that their digestive system can take the poison of rotting meat, if necessary.

I confess I haven't yet spent that much thought upon Bloodhounds death rituals (except for the Unseeing). Ôo It would probably be seen as kind of offensive to eat a deceased Bloodhound, unless it's an extreme situation like uh... I dunno... two hounds are trapped somewhere, one dies and the other one will too, unless he finds something to eat. But that's really... unlikely to happen as Bloodhounds usually can open gates to other places.

I think it's safe to assume though that the closer Bloodhoudns live to the border of the society, or even beyond that, the more likely cannibalism can and will happen. Exiled Bloodhounds might be more prone to it, for examples.

Their cousins, the Gorgats probably do it all the time (not caring if their conspecific is still alive or not).

Ooh, got it! :) Yeah I wasn't necessarily sure which way to go with that.. And I'm not necessarily how far I want to take my hound to the edge.. Maybe I'll keep her a little more neutral. At least for now. :giggle:
I do want to make an epsilon.. but I don't want her to be banned, or never have contact with other hounds.. I'll brain storm some more.

:iconbloodhoundomega:
You don't _have_ to have her banned. Bloodhounds can live on the edge of the society if they chose to do so. Ileyeah is not as overpopulated as is Earth so there is room for everyone. If a Hound decides to evade cities and villages than (s)he has no trouble leaving a solitaqry life. Plus there is always the chance to live on one of the moons or other planets in the system or even completely elsewhere. If not banned the chance to return home is always given.

:iconishipuccu:
Yeah, I was trying to avoid having her banned, because I would like her to have some contact with other hounds. ;) Mostly solitary sounds good for me, then!
